MESSAGE FROM THE ASSOCIATE DEAN (Academic)

Sue McCracken

2020 was the year we acted with integrity, embraced change, explored new possibilities, inspired others, thought big, collaborated, were innovative, and went above and beyond.

We are privileged.

2020 was the year many of us realized how lucky we are. During a global pandemic, we were able to move online, work, and study from home. While different in many ways, we remained safe.

Of course, nothing about the last year was easy. Many of us were isolated from friends and family or wrestled knowing loved ones were in essential roles, or they themselves were fulfilling essential roles.

Navigating a global pandemic was not, and is not, easy. 2020 was the year to acknowledge that we all struggle, and it is ok to ask for help.

Yes, we developed resilience; and yes, we will emerge from a pandemic stronger, but let’s not lose sight of what we lost too. Let 2020 be a reminder for us.

Let 2020 be a reminder not to take casual hallway conversations, laughter in the lecture halls, and most importantly, each other for granted.

2020 will be the year we recall how fragile the modern world was. It will also serve as an important reminder that it was the year we looked to and truly lived DeGroote’s values.

2020 was the year we acted with integrity, embraced change, explored new possibilities, inspired others, thought big, collaborated, were innovative, and went above and beyond.

As the Associate Dean, Academic, I am humbled that I was invited into the homes of students, staff, faculty, and our community partners. We all did this to maintain the human connection that makes DeGroote so very special.

I continue to look forward to our bright future, knowing that not even a pandemic can break DeGroote’s special bond.
